I like to think that most of the time we get it right. For those times that we screw up really badly; I humbly ask your forgiveness.

As with any historical research – family or otherwise – I suppose the author must at some point use her own judgment to describe how an event may have occurred - because dead people tell no tales. One finds the historical documents and sources, roams cemeteries while silently studying tombstones that can only tell us so much. [I offer up a prayer for an ancestor I never knew.] Listening to family lore passed down, perusing notes left by those who went before; one tries to fill in the blanks in order to tie it all together historically. Prejudice aside; conflicting dates and data need to be resolved as best it can be. Information presented to you the reader, will undoubtedly have moments in time left up to your imagination.
I like to think that most of the time we get it right. For those times that we screw up really badly; I humbly ask your forgiveness. Jane

Author Hello, I'm Jane Harlan; a descendant of Huston Matthews & Margaret Venable. My obsession in all this is to obtain historical knowledge and family lore about this clan – and hopefully – distinguish between the two. Residing in Lawrenceburg TN; I have access to TN & AL archives & courthouses where our historical documents are maintained. Is there someone in particular you want to read about on this site? I implore you folks to send me your stories! If we don't get it in writing, the stories die with us. This website is Jan's obsession; and our legacy to all Matthews descendants. Let’s leave 'em something to talk about. ArchivesCategories |
